ComAp Products Compliant with the Latest EU Grid Connection Rules

02. 04. 2019

The expansion of renewable energy being exported to the public grid means new challenges for grid operators, plant manufacturers and operators. Keeping the EU grid connection on a reliable and stable level is essential and one of the reasons why the European Union set network requirements for plants connected to the public grid, summarised in the document Requirements for Generators (EU 2016/631). The regulation includes, for example, capabilities for automatic frequency and voltage stabilisation in the public grid. These requirements come into effect from 27th April, 2019.

The Grid Connection Rules effect all key parts of energy generation including Mains protections, Active power control, Reactive power control and Synchronization to the network.

ComAp’s answer to these requirements is a new product line, available both on InteliSys and InteliGen platforms. These InteliSys GSC and InteliGen GSC controllers accompany the already launched InteliSys Gas, and all of them are compliant to the latest Grid connection rules - European Requirements for Generators (RFG) and also to the latest German VDE-AR-N 4105:2018 and VDE-AR-N 4110:2018 codes. On top of that, all these controllers fulfil the Single Fault Tolerance requirement which saves customers a need for an extra mains protection relay in certain regions. For regions and applications where an extra grid protection relay is required, ComAp offers InteliPro and MainsPro relays. Both are already compliant to the latest German VDE-AR-N 4105:2018 and VDE-AR-N 4110:2018 codes.

ComAp implemented a solution that is highly versatile, aiming to fulfil all the local Grid codes within the EU within one product. Using adjustable parameters and curves, customers can easily adapt the control system for a dedicated country, making programming and commissioning much easier, and enabling them to sell their solution to whatever country within, (but not limited to), the EU.

Using ComAp controllers significantly helps all customers to be ready for upcoming Grid Code Requirements and contribute to the stability of the public grid.
